Creative Writing Exercises

My favorite metaphor for certain skills and abilities in your life is to look at them like muscles. When you work a muscle over time it breaks down and gets bigger when it builds back up. If you believe that, then you must also believe that in order to build up your writing skills you must perform creative writing exercises.

I am in the process of compiling ways that you can improve your abilities to write from the heart. I think that one of the best kinds of writing is the real tough stuff, the guttural feelings, the pain and the beauty of your memories and life. Accessing that kind of material is not easy and the articles on the site understand that. It all starts with allowing yourself the opportunity to experience these past feelings again and it ends with relaxing it out so you can go on with your life.

Give these exercises a shot if you believe that your writing is lacking a personal punch.
